If you’re new here, I encourage you to read this guide for beginners.

Here is a quick transfer partners reference chart. Below the chart, you’ll find more details and you can find the airlines in each alliance. Generally, miles in an airline program in an alliance can be redeemed for flights operated by any other airline in the alliance. For example, British Airways and American Airlines are both part of the Oneworld alliance. I can transfer any of the 4 currencies discussed here (Amex MR, Chase UR, Citi TY, or COV) to British Airways. Then I can use British Airways avios (their name for miles) to book flights operated American Airlines. Also, there’s always someone who asks so let’s get this out of the way: No, you cannot transfer BA to AA. You have to redeem BA avios on BA’s website at BA’s redemption prices (which are often better than AA!).

This is always subject to availability. Never transfer until you confirm that a seat is available to book with the airline program to which you are wanting to transfer. Note that some programs may make more seats available to their own program than to partners. For example, if you look on AA.com and find a seat that is available to book with AAdvantage miles, it does not necessarily mean that seat will be made available to book with British Airways Avios. You have to check with British Airways to make sure they actually have that AA seat available to book. Click here for more info on how to search for AA availability to book with partner miles such as British Airways.

Bank rewards/transferable points

These are our favorite credit card rewards currencies because instead of being limited to one airline program as we would be with an airline co-branded card, we have the option to transfer to whichever program has availability and the best redemption price.

Chase Ultimate Rewards:

All are transferred at a 1:1 rate. Ultimate Rewards are so easy to earn (thanks to bonus categories and shopping portals).

Amex Membership Rewards

Most Amex partners are 1:1 but there are two exceptions. American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to JetBlue at a 250:200 ratio, and AeroMexico is a 1:1.6 ratio.
